With Valentines Day on the horizon it can be a mixed bag for us solo trip travellers. So, here’s a varied look at the many LGBTQ+ friendly events you can enjoy this month up and down the UK.

Leigh Bowery at TATE Modern
Featuring culture shifting moments from one of the most referenced queer faces of the 20th century, Leigh Bowery! is set to open at the end of February at London’s TATE Modern. Featuring never before seen moments as well as eclectic work from his life and career, it’s sure to be a blast.

Enjoy an evening of decadence and sophistication as you listen to readings with the writers and editors of Flash Dances: 100 Little Queer Tales. LGBTQ+ History Month Archive & Gallery Guided Tour
Join the Peoples History Museum as they take you on a guided tour exploring activism and social change through the groups archive collection and gallery. With the day split into two chunks of learning, you’ll be in good hands as the team show you through old magazines, posters and archive from Lesbian and Gays Support The Miners (LGSM).

The Power of LGBTQ+ Books Free Workshop
Discover the untold story of what happened when the Government raided queer bookshops in 1984. What did censorship look like? What titles were impacted? Led by author Adam Zmith and political commentator Shivani Dave you’ll be in good hands throughout the free workshop where you’ll be creatively discussing history with fellow members of the community.

Pride In Nature: LGBTQ+ Bridging Binaries Tour
Fun! The Museum of Zoology will be taking ticket holders on a guided tour of their personal selection of some of the most fascinating facts about gender and sex in the animal kingdom. All courtesy of the animals at the Museum of Zoology. All ages welcome, this is set to debunk some myths about sexuality and gender and break the binary once and for all.

National Galleries of Scotland Celebrates 40th Years of Scotland’s Photography Collection
Featuring artists, photographers and subjects from across Scotland, this exhibition at the National Galleries of Scotland celebrates 40 years of Scottish photographic collection. Exploring over 55,000 photographs, you’ll find hidden gems as well as well known works sure to inspire.

As a fan of good puns and a nice solo trip to the theatre, this looks sure to tick all of my boxes. Another animal themed venture this week as drag king Bi-Curious George takes their sell-out Fringe show to Cornwall to view the natural world through the lens of stand up comedy, song and of course, drag.

Alice Oseman In Conversation With Rosie Talbot
To celebrate 10 years of Nick and Charlie, Waterstones are hosting Heartstopper author-illustrator and Emmy award-winning screen writer Alice Oseman alongside author Rosie Talbot to discuss the book (and Netflix series’) impact on audiences young and old. With a pre-signed hard back edition of Nick and Charlie up for grabs as well as exclusive prints, it’s sure to be one to check out at its two dates in London and Lincoln.
